EFCC seizes Saraki’s houses, marks others in Lagos

  5'  Some of the houses said to belong to Senate President Bukola Saraki and marked by the EFCC in Ikoyi, Lagos...on Saturday The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has seized some houses belonging to Senate President Bukola Saraki,  SUNDAY PUNCH  has learnt. The houses, which are located at 15a, 15b and 17 MacDonald Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, are said to belong to Saraki. However, the EFCC was said to be unsure of which of the properties that actually belong to the Senate President and decided to place inscriptions and stickers on all of them. While 15a and 15b were declared by Saraki in his asset declaration form, it is believed that some other houses on the street were bought by the Senate President from the Presidential Implementation Committee for the Sales of Government Property through shell companies. Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has issued a seven-day-ultimatum to residents of Ado Local Government Area of the state to fish out the killers of seven Ebonyi State indigenes who visited the state for a peace meeting. The four-man-delegation from Benue visited the state to settle crisis affecting the border communities in the two neighbouring states. However, the delegates were attacked on their way back to Benue for another peace meeting and were all beheaded. Court refuses to stop Buhari from swearing in Tanko Muhammad as substantive CJN

The Federal High Court in Abuja has rejected an ex parte application for an order stopping President Muhammadu Buhari from swearing in Justice Tanko Muhammad as the substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria. Muhammad has been acting as the CJN since January when President Muhammadu Buhari suspended the former CJN, Justice Walter Onnoghen. With Onnoghen’s resignation and subsequent conviction by the Code of Conduct Tribunal, Muhammad is believed to be set to assume the office of the CJN in a substantive capacity. The main suit filed by Malcom Omirhobo Foundation, a group being promoted and represented in court by a lawyer, Mr. Malcom Omirhobo, is challenging Muhammad’s fitness to hold the office of the CJN. FCT residents block Osinbajo’s convoy, protest alleged land takeover by military

Some aggrieved Abuja residents blocked the convoy of Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo along Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Expressway in Abuja on Tuesday. According to Laolu Akande, Snr Special Assistant-Media & Publicity to the Vice President, the FCT residents protested alleged land takeover by the military. The Vice-President got down and engaged the people while proposing to meet with their leaders with a view to finding an amicable solution. “On his way to the airport just now, VP Osinbajo runs into a group of FCT residents protesting alleged land takeover bid by the military. “He gets down, engages the people, proposing to meet with their leaders on the matter & intervene with a view to finding an amicable solution,” Laolu Akande wrote on Twitter.

Govt threatens to drag herdsmen to court

The Governor of Ebonyi State, Chief David Umahi, at the weekend threatened that his administration can take herdsmen to court for crimes committed against farmers in the state. Umahi made this known while fielding questions from the members of course 12 of the Institute for Security Studies, ISS, which took place at Exco- chambers Government House, Abakaliki, capital of Ebonyi State. The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Dr Eric Kelechi Igwe, lamented that the activities of herdsmen were worrisome, noting that the state will not tolerate a situation where the herders will be allowing their cattle to destroy crops and farmlands in the state.
